August 17, 2020 – The first of the two flights operated by Aerolíneas Argentinas departed today to Larnaca at 8 a.m. to carry the troops that will relieve the members of the mission conducted by the Blue Helmets of the Argentine Armed Forces.
The inbound flight is scheduled for August 22, and it will bring back to our country those members of the Armed Forces who have been stationed on the island for over 6 months.
The second flight will depart on September 3 and return to Ezeiza International Airport on September 8. A month ago, the Argentine Minister of Defense, Agustín Rossi, and the Director of Aerolíneas Argentinas, Pablo Ceriani, executed the agreement to carry the troops, which mission would otherwise not have been possible due to the sanitary and air transport restrictions in place.
It is important to highlight that the members of the Armed Forces had to quarantine before departing to Cyprus and they will also have to comply with a temporary isolation period upon arrival. Similarly, those members arriving in Argentina will have to remain in temporary isolation.
The mission of the Argentine Blue Helmets in Cyprus is the second most important one in the world after that of the English troops. Their operations center is located in Skouriotissa, where observation and surveillance tasks of strategic areas have been performed since 1993.
