21/09/2020

September 21, 2020 – Aerolíneas Argentinas has confirmed six new flights to China to be operated during October –this time to the City of Guangzhou. The main purpose of these flights is to bring health supplies to the country for the Argentine Ministry of Health. Unlike the previous flights, the outbound segment will have a stopover in Madrid and the inbound segment, in Auckland; thus the aircraft will fly around the world.

The first flight will depart on October 1 and the others will be operated every other day until six flights have been operated in total.

“Cargo operations are here to stay and speak about the importance of having a flag carrier in such a difficult context. The flights to China have been a huge opportunity to strengthen the new cargo business unit of Aerolíneas Argentinas, which was unfinished business for the company. This is very important for the country as it will contribute to the development of commerce and exports,” stated Pablo Ceriani, President of Aerolíneas Argentinas.

The purpose of the stopover in Madrid is to transport blueberries, which entail an optimization of the costs of operation and a strong boost to the cargo business, one of the strategic aims that the company has set in order to overcome the crisis that the commercial aviation industry is experiencing.

Together with other flights that will be operated to the City of Miami, by the end of October, the company will have carried approximately 360 tons of blueberries produced in the Provinces of Salta, Tucumán, Entre Ríos and Buenos Aires

In the aggregate, since the first special flight departed to China in mid-April, the company has operated 35 flights and 887 tons of surgical masks, gloves, face masks, biosafety suits, components to manufacture fast reagents and other health supplies have been brought to the country. The company also modified two of its Airbus 330-200 aircraft, removing some seat rows to increase the cargo capacity.
