The best January in the history of Aerolíneas Argentinas

02/02/2018

Last month, the Argentine flag carrier carried 1,241,766 passengers, surpassing 40,000 daily. Also, total sales broke another record.

Buenos Aires, February 2, 2018 - Aerolineas Argentinas announced very solid results for the first month of the year. It carried 1,241,766 passengers. This represents a historic number of passengers and a 6% increase in the number of passengers when compared to January 2017.

The increase is due to a strong commercial policy and an increase of 5.8% in the number of seats offered, when compared to the same month, the previous year. This is after more modern, new planes with more seats were added to its fleet. It should be noted that Aerolineas Argentinas added its third Boeing 737 MAX 8 plane, which has room for 170 passengers.

With respect to the sales record in January, more than 673,000 tickets were sold. This represents an increase of 4.5% more tickets sold, when compared to January 2017. Direct sales accounted for 39.5% of the total sales. This is in line with commercial plans laid out by the company.

The Argentine Transportation Minister, Guillermo Dietrich said, “Aerolineas continues to break records, which shows we are on the right path: adding planes and routes, improving the quality of service and connectivity, so that our airline flies more and better. And, this is done with fewer and fewer contributions from the Argentine people”.

The average load factor was 81.6%, and 87% of the flights departed on-time. Also in January 99.5% of the scheduled flights operated. There were 44% less cancellations when compared to the previous January.

“To begin the year with these auspicious results encourages us to continue growing. We continue to increase the number of seats we have to offer and passengers increasingly choose us. In the highly competitive context, our principal indicators show our operational strength”, stated Mario Dell’Acque, President of the Grupo Aerolíneas.

Another highlight of the month was the signing of an agreement with Alitalia that will allow passengers access to better options and connectivity and, for both companies, will improve what is offered to their clients. And, the company signed an agreement with the government of Cordoba. This agreement enhances the hub in Cordoba which was inaugurated last year. The objective is to increase connectivity, boost investments and create jobs.
