About Us

As a result of the merger of Alfa, Zonda, Fama and Aeroposta (the so-called “Argentine airlines”) in 1950, the major aviation company of the country was born.

In its early years, it incorporated some iconic aircraft in the aviation industry, such as the DC-3 and the Comet IV, which inaugurated the “jet era”, a technological leap that would allow a 50% reduction in the duration of the flight. Aerolíneas Argentinas is one of the pioneers in the use of this kind of aircraft, as well as in making direct international flights.

At the beginning of 1965, the company acquired four Boeing 707 long-haul aircraft. A year later it made the first non-stop flight between Buenos Aires and Madrid, in 11 hours and 31 minutes, being a worldwide record for that time.

In 1969 the first Boeing 737 were incorporated, and in mid 70’ the Boeing 747, generally known as “Jumbo”, started operations. Said aircraft made the first transpolar flight on June 7 1980: it departed from Buenos Aires, made a stop at Río Gallegos, went through the South Pole and reached Auckland, New Zealand.

Aerolíneas Argentinas was privatized at the beginning of the 90’. Austral Líneas Aéreas then joined the corporate group. In 2008, the five companies making up Aerolíneas Group become, once more, part of the National State.

Aerolíneas Argentinas has made a significant fleet and general infrastructure revamping and now it has its own pilot training center (CeFePra) and the New Hangar 5, the largest in Latin America. Accordingly, it is in constant modernization process in all its areas, both of operations and customer service.

At present Aerolíneas Group has a fleet comprising Embraer 190, Boeing 737-800 and Boeing 737-MAX8, Airbus 330-200 aircraft. Together with Austral Líneas Aéreas, Aerolíneas Argentinas covers a broad range of domestic, regional and international destinations.
